Restorer for BMW 2002 & 2000 CS 1969

Subject: Looking for a trusted Romanian restorer for two classic BMWs – BMW 2002 & BMW 2000 CS

Dear BMW Club Romania team,

My name is Fabien and I am a French BMW enthusiast.

I am contacting you because I am looking for a serious, trustworthy and genuinely passionate classic BMW restorer in Romania.

I have two BMWs that I would like to restore:

• BMW 2002
• BMW 2000 CS

Both cars require a substantial restoration, including complete disassembly, complete sandblasting, extensive rust and bodywork repairs, full paintwork, mechanical restoration and complete engine rebuilding.

I am not looking for a concours restoration or an expensive luxury restoration company.

My priority is to find a passionate craftsman or small specialist workshop, with an excellent reputation among BMW enthusiasts, who takes pride in his work and can offer a high-quality restoration at a reasonable price.

My target budget is approximately €35,000 for both cars together.

I understand that this is a limited budget for two major restorations, which is precisely why I am looking for someone who works from passion and has reasonable costs.

However, I am looking for a professional and transparent relationship:

• detailed quotation;
• work carried out in clearly defined stages;
• photographs throughout the restoration;
• no significant additional work without my approval;
• invoices;
• warranty on the work;
• possibility to see previous restorations;
• references from previous BMW owners.

Ideally, I would like to find someone with experience in BMW 02, Neue Klasse and/or E9, particularly serious bodywork and rust repair.

This is where I would really appreciate the help of the BMW Club Romania community.

If you know a restorer whom you would personally trust with your own BMW 2002 or BMW 2000 CS, I would be very grateful for a recommendation.

I am particularly interested in a talented craftsman who may not have a large internet presence but is well known and respected among Romanian BMW enthusiasts.

I am prepared to transport both cars from France to Romania if I find the right person.

If possible, I would be very grateful if the BMW Club Romania team could forward my request to members who specialise in classic BMWs or indicate the appropriate section/member to contact.

I am looking for a name based on genuine experience and reputation, not advertising.

Firat of all welcome to our forum!

...Soo you are looking for someone (...cheap enough but with skilled high level of BMW restoration...) in love with restaurations for the sake of restauration an old bimmer, correct?

Then you probably copied and pasted Terms and Conditions from a professional restoration company.. (that is interesting..) then posted here for a an individual restorer that just love to rebuild BMWs.. cheap.

...Do you know that invoices (that yoy are asking) are produced by some one that is registered and PAYS TAXES to taxman!? So are you in knowledge that money received by restorer after all these repairs must include taxman money!?

You forgot to mention who is going to provide necessary parts of the car body and engine parts? Or everthing should be included in these 35k?

My opinion is that you are looking for far too cheap necessary repair works on such old vehicles in Romania..

(...do YOU know that Romania is EU(?) and we do have almost the same price for food and other life necessities as in France?)

But, good luck with that.. (all the conditions you comes with as well..)

Thank you for your honest reply and for welcoming me to the forum.

I understand your point, and perhaps my original message was not clear enough.

I am not looking for someone to restore two cars cheaply at any cost, and I certainly do not expect a professional to work illegally or avoid paying taxes. I fully understand that a registered business has costs, taxes, labour, materials and overheads.

I am simply trying to find a serious and passionate BMW specialist in Romania, recommended by people from this community, who might offer a more reasonable price than a large professional restoration company.

The two cars are:

• BMW 2000 CS
• BMW 2002

Both cars are complete, but require extensive restoration, including bodywork, rust repairs, paint, mechanical work, brakes, suspension, electrical work, interior, seals, etc.

The €35,000 is my target budget for the restoration of both cars, but I am not assuming that this automatically includes every part or every possible additional repair.

I am perfectly prepared to purchase the necessary parts myself, especially if this allows me to save money. I am also prepared to do a significant amount of dismantling, preparation and reassembly myself.

What I am looking for is therefore not simply the cheapest person.

I am looking for the right person.

Someone who loves old BMWs, has already restored cars of this type, takes pride in his work, and can tell me honestly:

“This can be done within your budget, but these items will have to be done by you / purchased separately / postponed.”

And if the realistic cost is €40,000, €45,000 or more, I would rather be told that honestly from the beginning.

I am also aware that Romania is part of the EU and that the cost of living has increased considerably. I am not coming to Romania thinking that everything should cost a fraction of the French price.

My main reason for asking the Romanian BMW community is that I trust recommendations from people who have actually seen the work of a restorer, much more than advertisements on the internet.

So if you personally know someone who has restored BMW 2002, Neue Klasse, 2000 CS or E9 models and whose work you genuinely trust, I would be very grateful for the recommendation — even if that person is not cheap.
