On average, the Dallas area receives about
2 to 2.2 inches of rain per summer month, with July and August being the driest months. However, rainfall can vary significantly, with some years being much drier and others seeing much higher amounts due to summer thunderstorms, which can sometimes bring heavy downpours and flash flooding.
  • Average monthly rainfall: The average for June is about 2.2 inches, while July and August are the driest months, with around 2 to 2.2 inches per month on average, though these specific months often have less.
  • Variability: Rainfall can vary significantly from year to year. For example, 2022 saw over 10 inches of rain in August, while 2023 recorded only a trace amount in August.
  • Thunderstorms: While it's typically dry, summer thunderstorms can produce heavy rainfall, with rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour possible.
  • Drought conditions: Despite the possibility of heavy storms, it is not unusual to have periods of weeks without rain, and July and August are often the driest months.
